Invacare and SD cards
[info]evester22 wrote in [info]cerebral_palsy
Hey Everyone.
So I was wondering if anyone knows if I can use just a regular SD card for my invacare chair to save the settings. My displayhas a slot for a SD card. Of course when I called invacare they only want me to use theirs. So any insight would be great. Thanks!

For those of you with speech problems, what kind of jobs do you have?

I just turned 23 and have never had a job. :/ I'm graduating college this Saturday and would like to have a part time job until August when I (hopefully) start graduate school.

I am obviously not good on the phone. I get a lot of this: "I'm sorry, what was that?"

So anyway, I'm just curious as to what type of job I should look for.

Thank you.

Mobility Frustrations, Part I
[info]sixties_child wrote in [info]cerebral_palsy
Mobility will be such an evil challenge for me.

I'm sitting here thinking about it. It's not hopeless but I really do need more training.

I have excellent central vision with correction. But due to the cryosurgery to stop advanced retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), my visual field was reduced, apparently enough so that I really can't drive.

Questions for you non-drivers:

1. Cabs with wheelchair access - how do you explain that you use a manual/how to fold it up? Have you had trouble getting a cab?

2. Grocery shopping...HOW?

3. Emergency travel between cities. For example, I live in north Columbus most of the time, but most of my family is in Cincinnati. When my mom was dying, I almost didn't make it in time.

Thanks!

ETA: Also, how not to be a shutin and actually have some sort of social life.

I'm so tired of everyone asking me what's wrong with your leg and the stares everyone gives you.

Riiiight.

This gem appeared in my university's daily bulletin email this morning:

Work will be starting shortly on rehabilitating the elevators in both [removed] and [removed] Halls. The contractor will be starting work on Monday, December 21st, 2009. The project will take approximately four (4) months to complete. Work should be complete and the new elevators back in service around the third (3rd) week of April 2010. The upper floors in both [removed] and [removed] Halls will be inaccessible by elevator for the duration of the project.

We are very aware of the inconveniences that may be caused by taking these elevators out of service. However we are mandated to bring these elevators up to current federal and state standards. So we ask for your patience while the work is being conducted.

Should any student require accommodation please contact: the Academic Success Center – [name], at extension 4234; the Equity and Diversity Office, [name], at extension 5440; or, the Registrar’s office.

You may also want to contact the individual building coordinators: [removed] Hall – [name] at extension 4019; and, [removed] Hall – [name] at extension 4552.

Should any faculty or staff member need accommodation, please contact [name] or the individual building coordinators.

Thank you all in advance for your patience and cooperation DURING THIS NECESSARY PROJECT.
Naturally, I have a class upstairs in one of said halls. BRB, going to go raise hell. ;)
